Guided tour

Guided tours of Old Bayeux will take you on a journey through the city's long history, which was already rich in Gaul. But everything here has remained simple and discreetly elegant; nothing ostentatious or flashy, even in the old houses of the wealthy bourgeois who contributed to the city's prosperity.

The famous tapestry embroidered in praise of William the Conqueror (300 meters from the hotel) certainly doesn't look its age: a thousand years old! A UNESCO , it is an illustrated fresco depicting the conquest of England by the Duke of Normandy, both an artistic feat and an exceptional historical document. It was William himself who inaugurated this majestic cathedral in 1077. It has lost none of its grandeur or vibrancy: its stained-glass windows, bathed in the rays of the gentle Norman sun, have retained all their evocative power.

The Baron Gérard Museum reveals the finest collections of local art and crafts, while the Lace Conservatory safeguards a three-hundred-year-old tradition: you can even try your hand at it!

The Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy , for its part, will place you at the heart of the events that led Bayeux to become the first liberated city in France, on the morning of June 7, 1944, adventures from which you can rest in the botanical garden, in the shade of the "weeping beech", classified as a "Remarkable Tree of France".
