Guided tour
Guided tours of Old Bayeux will take you through the long history of the city, which was already rich, from Gaul. But everything here has remained simple and discreetly chic; nothing flashy, flashy, even in the old residences of the rich bourgeois who contributed to the prosperity of the city.
The famous tapestry embroidered to the glory of William the Conqueror (300 m from the hotel) definitely does not show its age: a thousand years! Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site , it is the illustrated fresco of the conquest of England by the Duke of Normandy, both artistic prowess and exceptional document. It was again Guillaume who inaugurated this majestic cathedral in 1077. It has lost none of its appearance, its colors: its stained glass windows, crossed by the rays of the gentle Norman sun, have retained all their evocative power.
The Baron Gérard Museum reveals the most beautiful collections of local art and crafts, while the Lace Conservatory safeguards a three-century-old tradition: you can even practice there!
The Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy , for its part, will place you at the heart of the events which led Bayeux to become the first liberated city in France, on June 7, 1944 in the morning, adventures from which you can rest in the botanical garden, at the shade of the "weeping beech", classified as a "remarkable tree in France".
