Normandy, a place of memory and leisure

Normandy offers superb getaways in the heart of its unspoiled nature. From Mont Saint-Michel to the Côte Fleurie, passing through charming beaches and seaside resorts, it invites all kinds of travel.

For lovers of nature and simple pleasures, Normandy also offers a preserved setting, with beauty as varied as it is exceptional. Land and sea converse in a constant exchange, which painters have enhanced with the colors of their own palettes, and which you too will embrace with your own wonder.

The Bessin, the flowery coast and the Pays d'Auge

The Bessin Coast, for example, with Port en Bessin, a few minutes north of Bayeux. An authentic fishing port, the small town has adapted to the vagaries of history, from military stronghold to maritime city, from fishing port to commercial port… Today you can explore the countryside via numerous paths, and even hit a few balls on the 36-hole Omaha Beach golf course, which hugs the cliff and offers you an exceptional view of the English Channel or the Normandy hinterland.

The Côte Fleurie (an hour from the hotel) evokes the historic turning point of the 19th-century seaside resort craze. It owes its name to the multitude of gardens that blossomed around the bourgeois houses built along the coastline, from Honfleur to Merville-Franceville. From Deauville, you might retain the memory of the famous wooden boardwalks, trodden by so many Hollywood stars who came to appear at the Festival; from Honfleur, a reproduction of a painting by Boudin or some other Impressionist charmed by the harbor and the light; from Houlgate, the dream of living in a Belle Époque villa typical of Norman seaside architecture; from Cabourg, the desire to read or reread "In Search of Lost Time": it is the Balbec of Marcel Proust's novel… If you leave the coast for the hinterland, you'll find hedged farmland and more expansive meadows. This gentle landscape nurtures some of the finest horses in the world.

On the other side of Normandy, Mont Saint-Michel, also known as the "Wonder of the West" (a 1.5-hour drive from Bayeux), offers a breathtaking spectacle in the heart of its bay, subject to the ebb and flow of powerful tides. A shuttle service to the Mont is available by reservation.
